Buttermilk Falls

A newly discovered and accessible place has just dropped into the hilly city of Chikmagalur. And if your love for water bodies is more than any other thing you will love this place. The waterfalls are called this because of the color of the water as we got information from localities and tourist guides.

About 12 km away from the city, the place is located at a downhill spot. Personal vehicles are not allowed after a place, and you have to hire a local jeep to cover the distance downhill. The vehicle usually charges Rs 100 per person in sharing to and fro the place.

The way downhill is severely dangerous and uneven because it is a just recently carved out place. No other proper road is available. Holding onto something in a vehicle would be the advice, before going down this topsy-turvy road.

The vehicle stops about 200 meters before the falls and then you have to walk down the place. You can hear the roar of the water falling from the distance. From a distant view also, the place will lighten up your place. There are fewer people usually because of the less popularity.

The place is covered with large stones from the entrance and water flowing down through the little valleys. One thing to take notice is the clean water even though humans were present around. The waterfall is not a great height but is still mesmerizing. The waterfall is in three levels falling one after the other.

There is slight slope at one end through which people can trek and reach the different levels of the falls but is a little risky one. But nothing should stop a real traveler to try the view from every corner. The other end of the slope is completely blocked. The water flows down deeper into the valley ahead.

The water is just about till your knees at the deepest, but it is freezing cold water. It will take time for you to adjust to that temperature but you still be shivering after one dip. The one huge volume of water on your head and you feel numb after 4 seconds.

If lucky enough you can even spot a small rainbow onto the falls reflecting onto the running water which creates a perfect arc onto the place. A place to enjoy and fun with your peers other than all the same peaks in the region.
